CRUSTACEANS
Crustaceans form a very large group of arthropods, which includes such familiar animals as crabs, lobsters, crayfish, shrimp, krill and barnacles. Like other arthropods, crustaceans have an exoskeleton, which they moult to grow. They are distinguished from other groups of arthropods, such as insects, by the possession of biramous (two-parted) limbs, and by the nauplius form of the larvae.

Alope spinifrons Easy to keep the Painted prawn grows to about 4 - 5cm, it is covered in small longditudinal red and blue lines giving it a brownish appearance. It is found along the coast of New Zealand Found in amongst boulders and rockpools at low tide. Peaceful temperament: Minimun Tank Size:100 litres preferably larger and at least 6 months maturity Readily accepts most meaty foods, can be nocturnal so feed after lights out.
Jasus edwardsii Easy to keep, grow to around 8 kg and 60 cm in length, and is a reddish coloured crustacean with long antenna. They are commonly found on reefs and areas of rough seabed around N.Z. Can be destructive in the aquarium and will eat almost anything. Need a cave for shelter but can tumble big rocks. Be careful.
